Homework

At Sawtry Junior Academy we believe that homework, in the way we set it, helps to develop children’s independent learning skills and effectively build on children’s understanding of the work they have covered that week in class. Challenges are open-ended and accessible by all children.

This year, homework will focus establishing basic skills with a focus on reading, spelling and multiplication tables. Children are expected to read at home at least three times per week and this should be recorded in learning logs. Spellings are set on Friday each week and then tested the following week. Children will also be expected to do three sessions on Times Tables Rockstars to consolidate their understanding of multiplication tables. Class teachers may add to this weekly expectation if the need arises.

We encourage parents to support their children with homework. All children have learning logs, which they record their reading in and these also offer a wide range of support information for maths and literacy to help children, and parents, with their homework.

Homework is set on Friday and should be handed in the following week. We would like to thank parents for their continued support in helping children to complete their homework as it does have a marked impact on the progress of their children.

Homework club runs every Friday lunchtime and enables pupils to access teacher support, should they need it and a quiet, supportive environment in which to work. Pupils do not need to sign up, they simply arrive at 12pm, collect a lunch queue pass, then return after they have eaten to the club.

Supporting your child’s learning at home

Each term we produce an overview which outlines what your child will be learning.
